Hello, fellow listers!

I am looking for a marriage and a divorce for Memory and William Moran a/k/a
Mournen, Moorin, Mooren, Mornan, Morning! Her name is unusual, I would like
her maiden name. While Memory still lived he had two daughters with the
next door neighbor's (Eli Stewart) daughter. They were first called by Mornan,
then, later, Stewart. I don't know if he actually married the Stewart
woman, if he actually married If they never married, and they were common-law
(speculation) would they still need a divorce and child support order?

It is sometimes said William was from Bedford County, VA and I have found
them in the Censuses for several different counties in VA/WV. The first time I
found them was in 1850 Raleigh County, VA, District 59, Census. They are
William, 26, farmer and Member, 24, and have Ellen,6, John, 3, and Madison, 4
months old. This could mean they were married about 1843 somewhere in
Virginia. Their neighbors were the Spanglers and the Peytons.

WYOMING County, VA/WV 1860 Census is where I found them next. Now he is not
a farmer, but a carpenter. Their neighbors were Cook and Smoot, with one
"unoccupied" which I've never seen listed before in my studies. They are now,
William Moran, 35, Member, 37, Ellen, 15, John 12, Madison, 10, Augustus, 7,
Cyrus W. 4, Isaac E. 1. Member is showing as cannot read or write, and Ellen
is showing as having attended school within the year. Apparently, they were
not educating the boys by this time.

In 1870 this family is 117 in the Scott District, BOONE County, WV, Census.
Ellen, John and Madison are not located. It is probable that Ellen has
married (to whom?), and John and Madison may have done, as well. Perhaps John
and Madison joined the Army during the War Between the States. WV being what it
is, they or one of them may have joined the CSA or the USA or even both! I
know Madison married Mary Jane Caldwell, born in NC, but I don't know where
they are in this Census. Madison and John are about 20-22 in this Census.
This Census continues to show William as a carpenter, now age, 45, and owns
$400 worth of real estate and $300 worth of personal property. Member, 47,
keeping house, Cyrus, 14, Augustus, 16, Isaac, 12, James T.,8, and Lorenzo Dow 6.
All shown as being born in WV except the baby, since it had become WV by
his birth in 1863. Member is shown as not being able to read or write. Isaac
and James are shown as cannot write only.

The last time I saw Memory she was called Member Manning, 1900 Loudon
District, Kanawha County, WV Census, living in the home of an Englishman, J.
F.DADDOU, and his wife, the former Charity Caldwell, born in NC, her son, Jno.
HAWKS, 18, son-in-law, Robert VICKERS, 21, (widower of their young daughter),
Eugene VICKERS, 4/12, grandson. Member is herein called Member Mourning, 58,
and her job is "works in family." I believe she is found in the Moran grave
plot in Spring Hill Cemetery in Charleston, Kanawha County, WV buried
8/14/1891, although their records say Mary A. MORAN.. This same Census in Loudon
District, Kanawha County, WV, has Memory's son, James Madison Moran, age 31,
blacksmith, born in WV (VA) and his wife, Mary J., 30, born in NC, as were
both her parents, with their children, and both are literate.

The other members of the household are James William, 11, Oatis A. 8, Alice,
7, Edward, 5, Jennie 11/12 and James's brother, Lorenzo, 16, also a
blacksmith. James, Oatis and Alice are all being schooled and only Edward and baby
Jennie cannot read or write.

Can Memory be a Caldwell? Her son, James Madison Moran, married the
aforementioned Mary Jane CALDWELL, born in NC. They must have been married before
the 1870 Census, since their son, James William MORAN is 11 years old in the
1880 Census. I have not found them anywhere, nor marriage record.

Please help me with my brick wall!
