Mail Service - Contracts Awarded, Postmasters Appointed.
The Washington Chronicle of the 1st instant, says:
This morning all the mail routes awarded to contract at the general letting in October, or by subsequent order in the States of Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida, will go into operation.
Contract is ordered with John W. CREED of Alexandria, for three time a week service between Alexandria and Dumfries, Virginia.
The following offices are reopened and appointments made:
Monterey, Highland County, Va.: Thomas H. SLAVEN, postmaster, vice John S. McNULTY.
Hightown, Highland County, Va.: McBride GUM, postmaster, vice William SWADLEY.
Ravens Nest, Washington County, Va.: Daniel E. PRICE is reappointed.
Spring Level, Hanover County, Va.: Miss Virginia C. MADDOX, Postmistress, vice William G. MADDOX.
Chapel Hill, Fluvanna County, Va.: B. A. PARISH, Postmaster, vice James M. KENT.
Collierstown, Rockbridge County, Va.: John E. POTTER, postmaster, vice J. A. WILSON.
The post-office at Gordonsville, Orange County, Va., is discontinued.
