I don't think there are any concrete rules....I have several adoptions in my
tree and had to figure out how to enter that info. After trying different
things I finally put *brith name was____ after the place of birth in the
born in field. Then added adoptive parents and date of adoption in the more
about. That way the info shows up with the name at the begining of the
report.....my program if fooled into thing the info is part of the birth
location.

I would probably use the aka and also put an explanation in the notes. You
could also use more about marriage notes. I use FTM & have even pasted will
transcripts into the notes.

> I would surely suggest that if an ancestral line is important enough to
search, then such aberrations as you have described should be the subject of
a note (foot- or end-) fully explaining the spelling or alternate name
problem encountered by you. Those who come after you will appreciate that
explanation, even if a considerable number of words are required, and they
will not be, thus, again posed with the question of what is genealogically
"proper" (whatever in the world that might mean). In short, why abbreviate?;
tell your reader of the problem and of your solution. Paul
