Good!!!, Suz G, and be sure to make the notes complete in order that there be NO possibility of additional error by future researchers of that line. Paul

Subject: [VA-SOUTHSIDE-L] Re: name problems

My sister has the idea that because my mother told her that my mother had
named her Harriett Ann and for whatever cause the clerk put down Harriet
Anne, that my sister would use and has used for 50 years Harriett Ann with
the consequence that at times she must explain why the spelling differs. So
in entering that name into the genealogy I use Harriet Anne because that is
the legal record on the name, and I fn. the tale of Harriett Ann

I myself use the legal record. If the legal records vary, and Lordy in my
family they do, I pick one, and fn. the rest of them. For instance for one
of my maternal grandmothers there are 7 different names used over 7 different
documents all of those legal public records.
