Actually, the term "lightwood" in these parts refers to the
resinous wood of the pine tree. The old long leaf pine was
and is full of resin and makes a good fire starter since it burns
like it was soaked in kerosene.

Lightwood Swamp is located between Wakefield and Berlin in
Southampton County. A very useful site for locating geographical
