Dear Jim Smith, You wrote in regard to the Jouett family: Matthew Jouett and
Sarah had a daughter, Mary, in Caswell County, NC. Mary married Roger Dixon
in Caswell County on 16 December 1794. Roger died about a year later. Mary
then married John Bysor and migrated to Sumner County, TN. Question: Did
Mary have any offspring by Roger Dixon?
Response:
You may find this information helpful in your search in Sumner Co., TN, one
of the earliest counties in Tennessee (1787).
Prowling around a genealogical library in Texas afew years ago, I found an
index to the Sumner Co. Archives. I have just now checked the LDS catalog
(on CD_ROM and don't see such a book listed as being held at Salt Lake City.
However, such a book does exist, and Sumner Co. has its own archives.
It may be worthwhile for you to write there and inquire about guardianship or
probate for the family you seek. I had a positive response from them. My KY
ancestor owned land in in Sumner Co. which his heirs had sold for $5,000 ca
1850. The grantee failed to pay and the heirs sought judgment. I got a
summary of the court case, but if I had wanted photocopies of the actual
trial etc., it would have cost me about $125.00. I declined, but I got some
preliminary good information from the Archives. They answered promptly.
Question: Do you descend from Matthew Jouett the younger? If so, did he get
bounty land from action in the Rev. War? I would like to know more about
him.

onse: I cannot answer your question. However, if you do not know this, you
