Mason Phillips the First was born in Bristol Parish, Prince George Co. VA in 1728. He moved with his parents (Thomas and Isabella Phillips) to Craven County NC and lived in present Lenoir County, land on Contentnea Creek and Loosing Swamp.
Mason Phillips the Second, presumably the son of the first Mason Phillips, was probably born around 1750 in NC, and was alive in Craven County (present Lenoir) in the late 1700s.
In this same family, Mason Phillips the Fourth (parents not known) appears in the McMinn County TN Tax Rolls of 1829-1830. He is listed on Captain Childers's Tax Roll, and he sold land in McMinn County to David Cobb, jr.
Mason Phillips the Fifth was born in 1800 in North Carolina, son of Charles Phillips and Jemima Hardy Phillips. Moving with his parents, he lived in Craven or Lenoir County NC, then Newberry County SC (1803-1817) and in McMinn County TN (1817-about 1830). He married Mary "Polly" Witt in McMinn County and moved to Clay County KY, where he bought land, farmed, and appears on the tax and census rolls.
Does anyone have any information on these men?
Thank you.
Mary Jane Phillips-Matz
