I search for info on Thomas M. Cox (1809-1877) who lived in the Elon District
of Amherst and is buried near Monroe, Va. Census data shows a Thomas Cox
family in Nelson County in 1810, and a William Cox family that wandered back
and forth between Nelson and Amherst. Thomas M. Cox s shown in Nelson
County, living next door to George Cox and America Carter in 1850, and later
Amherst. Finally, an LDS file shows a Thomas Cox, child of Mary Ruth Boring
and William Cox (first wife Mary Dillard?), who married Mary Mitchell in
Monroe, Va. (This family may have moved to Missouri in the 1840's).

Any info about Amherst/Nelson Cox families 1750-1850 with first names
WILLIAM, GEORGE or THOMAS appreciated. One theory is that Thomas M. Cox was
born in Northumberland County and is unrelated to the William, George and
Thomas Cox family of 1810 Nelson/Amherst unless they were cousins he joined
around 1830.
