My great grandfather William CARTER also known as Alexander CARTER was born in Amherst Co. VA in 1823 and lived on a plantation with his mother. I would like to find the name of his father and mother. He told my grandmother his mother's name was Melissa but refused to talk about his father. William later moved to KY then to MO and finally to IN. He died in 1909 in IN. He said he had a brother named Creed CARTER

Can anyone help me with this tough one??
