The Chenault family is big! I looked through my information and my great, great grandmother was Laura Chenault, born 29 March 1849 in Buckingham Co., VA. She lived and died in Buckingham Co., VA. She did not have a brother names James. I do see a listing for James Chenault on the 1870 census in Amherst Co. Maybe you could check the detail on that. Have you tried the family web site? Also, there is a book published in 1992 titled "Descendants of Estienne Chenault". I have a copy of the first 20 pages or so that you may find interesting.
