Subject: Currently on exhibit at the Amherst County Museum & Historical SOciety

The Amherst County Museum and Historical Society is located at 154 South Main
Street in Amherst and is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through
Saturday. Free Admission. Phone (434) 946-9068 for more information.

Currently in the galleries:
· Amherst County Pathways, the Amherst County Museum's permanent exhibit in
the Massie Gallery, provides an overview of the history of Amherst County
from the effects of its geography on its history to the involvement of Amherst
County citizens in World War II. Other topics covered include Monacan
influences, transportation history and the James River, agricultural traditions, county
mills, and lifestyles around 1900.

· Amherst School Days, now on display in the Singleton-Zinsser Memorial
Gallery displays artifacts that reflect education in Amherst, from 1907 maps in a
wood case to a 1929 graduation dress with autograph book.

Recent Acquisitions are on exhibit in the Whitehead Gallery. Currently
several baby items tatted by hand and a broadside of photographs and narratives of
an Amherst County home tour, thought to be ca. 1957.

Teachers may be interested to know that the online version of the School Days
exhibit contains several digitized pages of old textbooks, some nineteenth
century, from the disciplines of arithmetic, chemistry and government.
