>
> I would like to discuss the 1860 census, of both Amherst Co and Nelson Co,
> Virginia, as it concerns the CAMPBELL surname.
>
> Since the Campbell families of Amherst Co are all, or mostly all related
to
> the Campbell families in Nelson Co, the 2 locations have to be examined at
> the same time, side by side.
>
> I will now attempt to identify the ancestry of each person on the 1860
> census, of both locations, who are 60 yrs of age , or older. This should
> give me the GENERATION of the parent of my ancestor, George T. Campbell b.
> 1824 d. 1856.
>

>
> 1. Edmund S. Campbell 60 yrs, s/o John Campbell and Mildred Coffey.
married Elizabeth Susan Phillips.
2. Francis Campbell b. 1780 s/o Francis, Sr., s/o Lawrence and

> WRIGHT. Henry, s/o George Campbell and Catherine (Caty).
Married Harriet Bryant 6-9-1848 Nelson Co.
> 4. Katharine Campbell 65 yrs
Catherine Campbell, who married Cornelius Campbell in 1816 in Nelson
> Co. Cornelius Campbell, s/o George and Elizabeth, s/o Geroge and Caty,
s/o George and Margaret.
Catherine Campbell, 65 yrs, d/o Henry Campbell and Sarah Wright, s/o Geroge
and Caty, s/o George and Margaret.
He identity is established by the 1835 Deed of Sarah Campbell, her widowed
mother, and Willim W. Camden, a neighbor.
> In the 1860 census, Nelson Co, page 705, Rose Mills P.O., are listed 3
> houses together, they are the ONLY Campbell households listed in Rose
Mills,
> they are:
> A. Katherine Campbell 65 yr, with Sarah W. 40yrs, and George M. 14 yrs.
> B. William H. Campbell 41 yrs, with Martha 35.
> Is this William the son of Catherine and Cornelius Campbell? Is this his
> wife Martha Mays? m. 2-20-1847 Amherst Co.
> C. John H. Campbell 71 yrs., with Arrana M, 33 yrs, and Virginia M. 9
> yrs, and Benjamin M. 7 yrs.
John H. Campbell is the s/o Henry Campbell and Sarah Wright, he is the older
brother of Catherine Campbell, who married Cornelius Campbell in 1816.
Arrana M. Campbell, living with his, and 2 young children, is probably his
niece, and NOT his wife. She is probably only shareing the house with him,
as her widowed mother lives next door, and her brother also.
> Is Arrana the daughter of Katherine/Catherine above, and the sister of
> William H. Campbell listed above?
> Are the 3 Campbell house listed at Rose Mills, Nelson Co in 1860 census,
> actually a MOTHER, her SON, and her DAUGHTER, all listed together, side by
> side??
>
> 5. Nancy Campbell 61 yrs.
> She lives at Massies Mills, who is she?
>
> 6. Sarah Campbell 82 yrs.
> She lives at Massies Mills inside the household of Jane HENDERSON 47 yrs.
> Is she the mother of Jane?
> Is she Sarah Goode, who married William Campbell, is she the mother of
> Lawson G. Campbell, who is listed in Amherst Co. ?
>
> 7. William W. Campbell 72 yrs.
> He lives at Massies Mill. s/o Henry and Sarah Wright, s/o George and Caty,
