Pam wrote: In the will John Phillips' WIFE is described as what appears
to be "Penelophey" (Phillips).

Later Amherst Co., VA records name her as "Elphee/Elpee Phillips" (land
deeds for property
purchased with granddaughter, Sophianne Phillips - AFTER John Phillip's
death).
Some of these later records too, connect them to the Evans name.

In 1790, according to Amherst Co., VA marriage records "Elpee EVANS" married
John Phillips.
That's all we found in the records, no parents or witnesses available.

Elpee Evans is also mentioned in the book Indian Island - and connected to
the Monacan Indians. Do you have any information on her and what Evans family
SHE is connected to?

Pam, I'm wondering if the Elpee Evans you may be referring could possibly be
the "Neley" that Thomas EVANS included in his Will, 1774. He states she is
his daughter. The spelling in this Will is not the best for the most part
and I'm going on the "hunch" that Penelope/Penelophey could have the nickname
"Neley/Nellie". Just an idea.
