1.9.1 Washington Campbell, b. Cr. 1810 in Nelson Co., VA . He was 21 when
he 1st m. Mary "Polly" Thompson. on 2-14-1831 in Nel Co. per Rev. Bailey
Davis compilation. James Thompson was witness. She was the daughter of James
S.Thompson, Jr. and Elizabeth Stevens. [4] "Mary P. Campbell, wife of
Washington Campbel, died 8/15/1871" (per [18} family Bible).
His second m. was to C. J. "Mate" Funkhouser 11/6/1874 after Polly's
death.
It is said Washington was a controlling person. He locked the sewing
supplies in his trunk and if they were needed Polly had to ask. He was
supposedly the High Sheriff or tax assessor of Nelson Co. Mate manipulated him into
making a settlement on her before their marriage. Daniel, his son, said the only
thing he got from the estate was a mule
1840 Nelson Co., VA census 1 male 5-10, male 20 to 30, 1 male 30 to 40 and 2
females under 5, 2 females 5 to 10 and 1 female 30 to 40.
1850 Nelson Co. Census: Washington Campbell, age 40, a farmer,
Mary,Wife, is 41, Elizabeth 18, Sarah 16, Thomas 14, Phoebe 11, Martin 8, Daniel 5
and Abraham 1.
1860 Nelson Co. Census, Washington Campbell, 50 and wife , 52, Thomas
23, Martin V. 18, Daniel 15, Abraham 11.
1870 Nelson Co. Census Washington is 60 a farmer, Mary 62, Abraham 21,
Elizabeth Long 39, Fayette 10, Benjamin Camden 14 and Mary E. Campbell 2.
Washing Campbell died 6/5/1877 (per [18] family Bible).

Reel No. 1163: Washington Campbell's Estate of 144 ½ acres adjoining J. Wood,
15 miles W of courthouse; 128 acres adjoining J. Whitehead, 15 miles W of
courthouse and 20 acres adjoining J. Whitehead, 12 miles W of courthouse
George Washington Campbell 1.9.1.1 not listed on the 1850 census
Elizabeth Campbell 1.9.1.2 b. 1832
Sarah "Sallie" G. 1.9.1.3 b. 1834 , d. 6/17/1867, Nelson
Co.
Thomas J. 1.9.1.4 b. 1837 Nels. Co., d.
3/7/1863 per [18] family Bible.
