There are a couple of local papers that serve Arlington: the Arlington Connection and the Examiner newspaper (http://www.examiner.com/ and http://www.connectionnewspapers.com/). The vast majority of people run obituaries in the Washington Post since it is the most widely read newspaper in the area.

When my father died, I was aghast at the cost of a paid death notice in the Post (but paid it anyway). The funeral director told me that only about half of his clients opt to even run obituaries these days. It's possible that there was no obituary for Mr. Roberts, particularly if there were no immediate survivors.
