Janice Artemel made the following good suggestion, so I shall try to
comply to the extent I can.

Alexandria information.

For starters, I don't know if everyone is aware of the Alexandria Library
homepage and the section for the Library's historical collections, now
housed at the Lloyd House. Among other things, they have on-line finding
aids, a newsletter (which includes recent acquisitions of documents), an
index to building permits (1896-1928), an index to Northern Virginia
local history periodicals, etc. They are also continuing to put
obituaries on line (picking up from the published index they published
years ago, which ends at 1915).

You can find the index links at http://www.alexandria.lib.va.us/index.htm

The newsletter is at http://www.alexandria.lib.va.us/doorw44.html

The Lloyd House also creates on-line exhibits of postcards, photos, etc.
