I don't know if you have noticed, but very few, if any, books on Carroll
County are handled by a national publisher/distributor. I am always on the
look out for books on our county, so if anyone knows of a good research book,
please let me know.

Do we have any members of this group that live near Hillsville or makes
frequent trips to the town? It would be helpful to have someone who would do
"look ups" for us. I only get back once a year, but would be glad to do a
"rooting" when I go.

Here are some addresses you may want to keep in your files:

Omega Office and Church Supply
215 N. Main St
Hillsville, Va 24343
ph: 1-540-728-2061
great source for books on Carroll County

Carroll County Genealogy Club
Box 395

Carroll County Public Library
101 Beaver Dam Road

The Carroll News

John Perry Alderman's 1850 annotated census has been reprinted and is
available at the Omega store...well worth owning a copy. In fact, owning any
of his books is a
"must" for a Carroll researcher. I am not sure what is still available...you
might inquire at the book store. His book "Carroll 1765-1815, The Settlement"
is an outstanding source of information on the early residents of the county.

Also...
Ron Hall compiled the roster of surviving Confederate soldiers from Carroll Co
as well as the death records for the last half of the 1800's...I am not sure
which organization
has copies available for sale but these are two additional booklets I suggest
everyone buy. Ron...can you add any info to this...

If you are a serious Carroll researcher, I would suggest you join both of
these fine, hard working organizations (Historical and Genealogy). They have
proven to be most helpful in my research.

I am researching:
Lineberry, Coulson, Bryant, Farmer, Moore, Quesenberry, Landreth, Alley,
Smythers, Davidson and others. I would be glad to share/work with anyone doing
these lines.

Judy
