Tony
I think there may have been a William Johnson old enough to be the brother
of Naum, but there was a William who signed as son of Naum, in the Charlotte
Co tax books, so at least I know one William was a son of Naum. Now, the
researcher at Jones said that William Johnson, father of Nancy Johnson m
Thomas Hamlett, was a William who settled in Charlotte Co with father
Naum/Nahom etc. But, I don't know if that was on Turkey Cocke Creek or not.
Thomas Hamlett's mill stood on Turnip Creek, on the western edge of
Charlotte Co VA, near the border with halifax, best I remember. I'm not sure
where Turkey Cocke is and I'm not home to grab the gazateer.

BUT,,the big problem was the number of Johns(t)on's in Charlotte Co, and
whether they're all related or not. I think some moved over from Louisa or
Caroline, as a part of the group that in Bedford/Campbell/Albemarle were all
Quakers, but the one's who moved out were not.

As for the Ballinger's, there appear to be at least two or three groups of
them. There was a group from PA, possibly quakers, moving south, though
Bedford and Pittsylvania Co. Then there were those of Francis Ballinger, who
had children christened in Queen Anne's Parish, Prince George Co, MD,
beleived to be part of the early Huegonot refugees who moved into MD, and
then into the northern neck of VA. Francis was there by 1716, and died
between 1716, and 1730, when his wife, Judith, is listed as a tenant on land
in a suit. So, somehow, they may be connected in France, but lost that
connection on this side of the pond, or so it appears.

I think it would take a Johnson DNA pool to sort that group out. I know
there is some Johnson DNA being gathered, as it's disputed some of the
Lorand Johnson theories of another line (that of Christopher Johnson in
Albemarle Co VA, but several generations earlier, much to many folks dismay)

And on it goes. Keep at it. sorry I'm not home so I'd have a map.

you might go to the deed data pool, online (that title...deed data pool in
quotes will get you there) and run a search on Johns(t)on's. you'll get a
ton, more than likely, but you have to search each county, and the success
depends on which deeds have been submitted by people. There isn't anyone
going around gathering them, except we silly people who chase dead
ancestors. <G>
