Fellow List Subscribers:

I didn't realize my post was going back to the list. I was hoping to post
over the weekend but will go ahead now. I was quite excited last week when
Baugh information appeared and I found some other Baugh researchers.

Just so you know where my research stands. I am looking for the parents of my
gg grandparents Archibald Bolling BAUGH who married/or posted bonds Caroline
WASH,d/o Lipscomb on February 5, 1827. Here is where things stand on the
Baugh and Wash name.

BAUGH -- Even though my aunt left a family group sheet saying that Archibald
Bolling Baugh's father was the Archibald who married Sarah Worsham 1793 as
posted here last week. I have serious doubts about that. That Archibald
Baugh was a prominent Petersburg citizen, banker, mayor 1909-1910, has been
mentioned in several genealogical magazines, blurbs, newspaper obit, is
mentioned in the Bolling BATTE papers at the Library of VA, which I highly
recommend to you all in this neck of the woods, and I have his will abstract.
Nowhere in all of these sources is a son named Archibald mentioned. Being
left out of the will could be understandable because he looks to be the oldest
child, but not being noted in all rest is far fetched. By the way that
Archibald Baugh who married Sarah Worsham is the son of Richard Baugh and
Margaret Jones (of the Peter Jones family of Petersburg). Sarah Worsham died
in 1795. He married second Rebecca Eppes Worsham.

So when the following was posted last week I saw a new possibility. This John
Baugh's will has an Arch'd, who might be Archibald??

In a message dated 99-03-22 03:15:46 EST, you write:

<< Chesterfield County Will Book 5, page 314: Will of John Baugh of Dale
Parish
"To wife Jane, 2 negroes and items and use of my plantation I live on for
widowhood. Rest of estate equally to my children: Martha, William, Sarah,
John, Bartlett, Edward, Peter, Joseph, Horatio, Arthur, Arch'd, and
Elizabeth. Executors: John Legon, Baxter Folkes. Dated 29 September 1791.
Witnesses: Nath. Friend, Benj. Osborne"

Chesterfield County Court Order Book 14, page 5: Court 8 December 1800:
"Will of John Baugh proved by Benjamin Osborne and Archard' Bass,
witnesses. Baxter Folkes, an executor, refused to act. Mrs. Baugh, the
widow, refusing to act, William Dunn, took oath as administrator."
>>

Is anyone familiar with this John?? How old would his children be?? Any
comments from Baugh researchers appreciated.

WASH--My problem is that there are two Lipscomb Washes in the vicinity at the
same time

1. Lipscomb WASH who married Elizabeth SAUNDERS on June 9, 1784 in Powhatan
County, VA.

2. Lipscomb Wash, ninth child of Thomas Wash and Mary LIPSCOMB who was the
dau of Thomas and Sarah Mack Gehee. This Lipscomb was born 3/5/1777 according
Wash information I found at the DAR library. There is a notation for him as
follows: "Overseers of Poor bound Lipscomb, orphan of Thomas Wash dec'd to
Lewis Johnson, mill right, 7-11-1787 (Min. Bk)" He would have been to young to
have married Elizabeth Saunders.

My Archibald Bolling Baugh was living in Amelia Co before he moved to Barry
then Lawrence Co MO ca 1837. The move to MO was direct. No stops for a
generation in TN somewhere like most of my VA/MD/NC ancestors.
. a. Archibald Bolling/Bolen/Boland Baugh. He appears in marriage records,
Dr. Stirlings journals (which I recommend to any of you with lost people in
Amelia and environs in the 1820s) as Archibald Bolling Baugh (he also came in
for criticism by Dr. Stirling for handling a fire victim poorly). As was the
case with Bolling names, after he left VA he was only known as Bolen or
Boland. It was middle name for several descendants, but never became Bolling.
Archibald Bolling was born ca. 1792, Virginia died ca. 1876, Lawrence Co.,
Missouri
buried somewhere on Baugh homestead, Mount Vernon, Lawrence Co., Missouri
married 16 Feb 1827, Richmond, Virginia. This date according to a son's
pension record. Powhatan Co marriage records show it was 5 Feb 1827 in
Powhatan, with a reference to Amelia?? He could have had court then church
wedding I guess.

Caroline E. Walsh/Wash. daughter of Lipscomb Wash. (We think she had a
sister, Mariah, who went with the family to Mo and married a VA WHIPPLE)and
(?)born ca. 1800-1810 died ca. 1843, Lawrence Co., Missouri, buried somewhere
on Baugh homestead, Mount Vernon, Lawrence Co., Missouri.. Until I found the
Powhatan marriage record her descendants all thought her maiden name was
WALSH.

Their children were
:2. aa. Benjamin B. Baugh, born ca. 1828, Virginia
2. ab. Amaliza Middy "Eliza" Baugh, born ca. 1829-30, Virginia
2. ac. Mariah Boland "Prissy" Baugh, born 27 Apr 1831, Virginia
2. ad. Sarah F. Baugh, 19 May 1833, Virginia
2. ae. Andrew Jackson Baugh, born 25 Jul 1836, Amelia Co., Virginia
2. af. George Henry Baugh, born ca. 1838-1839, Lawrence Co., Missouri
2. ag. William Edward/EGGLESTON ?? (different family records) Baugh, born 2
Apr 1843, Lawrence Co., Missouri. Caroline died after William E. My great
great grandfather who married in Missouri a Letsey Catherine SHELTON of former
Pittsylvania Co Sheltons (through our Ralph's son Crispin's three sons
Gabriel, Beverly and Vincent (yes all three) for you Shelton researchers.

I descend from William E and Letsey Shelton's son William Loren BAUGH, who
married Marguerite HILL, daughter of Hugh Lawson White HILL and Sarah
Elizabeth Tennessee GAY.

Any thoughts or comments about where my Archibald Bolling Baugh and Caroline
Wash fit in amongst the Chesterfield folk would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance and sorry this is long.

Janet Baugh Hunter
