to
Lewellen Lanham
This Deed made this 31st day of January in the year 1861, between
William Gibbs and Lewellen Lanham both of the County of Clarke and
State of Virginia witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of one
dollar in hand paid, the receipt is hereby acknowledged and bed and
board during the natural life of the said William Gibbs in the house
about to be consigned to be furnished by the said Lewellen Lanham,
doth grant with [?] warranty unto the said Lanham a certain lot in
parcel or parcel of land being the same purchased of Benjamin Thompson
on which the said Gibbs now resides, [?] and being in the county
and state aforesaid, [?] as follows (viz) Beginning at (1) a [?] in
William D. Littleton's (new [?]) line and running with this line S 60
E 9 8/10 poles to (2) [?] corner to Littleton [thence] with this
another line of said Littleton S 47 3/4 E 22 poles to a chestnut tree
thence [?] Littleton and continuing the same course 67 poles in all to
the center of the mountain road a [?] pole on the western side opposite
[?] down the road with its meanders S 51 1/4 W 8 8/10 poles, S 31 1/4
W 9 5/10 poles, S 60 1/2 W 11 2/10 poles, S 48 1/2 W 10 8/10 poles,
S 41 W 17 3/10 poles, S 25 1/2 W 9 3/10 poles, S 44 1/2 W 13 5/10 poles,
S 34 1/2 W 7 6/10 poles, S 59 W 12 4/10 poles to (4) a [?] [?] in
Benjamin Thompson Jr. line. Thence with this line N 53 W 35 poles to
(5) a white oak stump, thence N 49 W 12 poles to (6) a chestnut [?] to
said Thompson and James Lanham, thence with lanham N 27 1/2 E 101 poles
to the beginning containing [?] four and a half acres in the same
more or less. And the said William Gibbs consents that he is lawfully
seized in fee of the [?] granted premises, that he has the right to
convey the same to the said Lewellen Lanham, and that the said Lewellen
Lanham shall have [?] [?] of the said land free from all encumbrances
[?] the [?] named bed and board during the natural life of the said
William Gibbs. Witness the following signature and seal.
