Harry Raymond Alvis, the nine? year old son of Mr. and Mrs.
W. W. Alvis, who live in Albany aveune, died an early this
morning after a lingering illness.
The funeral will take place from the Oak?Grove Baptist
church tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. The burial will
be in Maury Cemetery.(19)

Judge John H. Ingram had many cases to dispose of in the
corporation court of Manchester this morning, many of which
had been sent up by Mayor Maurice.(19,9)

Robert Ford, the negro who is charged with holding up
Joseph Moore and robbing him of $125, was placed on trial
in the corporation court of Manchester yesterday, but as the
members of the jury could not agree on a verdict, they
were discharged, and the prisoner was remaned to jail
until the next term of the court.
Lawrence Pool appeared as counsel for Robert Ford
(colored), who is charged with highway robbery. The jury
could not agree six being for conviction and six for
acqulttal. The case, therefore went over until the next
term of the court.(19,9)

The case of Harrison Cox, charged with stabbing W.
J.Harding, was continued until Feb. 18, as was also that of
Benjamin Smith, who is charged with extorting money or
obtaining it under false pretenses.(19,9)

The suit of Dr. W. P. Mathews against Maurice Johnson for
profensional services is being heard in the court this
afternoon.(19,9)

John S. Taylor, chairman of the board of supervisors of
Chesterfield county, was in Manchester today, and called at
R. A. Bowen's store on business. T. A. Howlett, another
member of the board, was also in the city today.

Beverly Totty suffered a severe injury while cutting wood
at his home in Manchester this morning. In some way the axe
slipped and cut his foot almost in two.
Dr. J. W. Brodnax was called in and rendered the necessary
medical aid. It will be some time before Mr. Totty will be
able to walk again.(19,1)

B. A. Nunnally, who has been ill, is improving under the
treatment of Dr. E. T. Rucker.
Emmett Nunnally, who cut one of his hands with a hatchet,
is improving
Mrs. Carrington Watkins, who has been ill at her home in
Chesterfield county, is improving.
Mrs. T. H. Edwards has gone to Albemarle county to vist
Mrs. James W. Brown.(19,9)


Lillian Harrison was the child who rescued little Nellie
Stroud from drowning in a well last week. Mrs. F. G.
Stroud, sister inlaw of the little child, said that Lillian
Harrison saved the little girl by grabbing her hair.
Nellie then threw up her arm, which was caught by Lillian,
pulling her out of the well.(19,1)
