Linda and Sherry,
I have been monitoring VACULPEP-L for quite some time, and I am surprised how
little there is on the Ashers. Especially since there were so many in the
area from the mid-1600s. Sherry, I think that we corresponded once back when
you first started out. Glad to see that you are still with us.
I have solidified my lineage back to John G. (Green or Glass) Asher b. 1818
in Culpeper Co., d. 1904, m. Susan Anne Eppersan b. Campbell Co. Both died in
Henry Co., TN. Most of my information comes from informal family records. I
also am having difficulty linking him to the earlier Culpeper Co. Ashers who
it is easy for me to believe he is associated. My gf seemed to think that we
might have migrated from PA. If so, we might be from a later arrival in the
area.
Let me know if the information that I have is useful to you.
Thanks,
Phil

Well if you have Ashers in your line we may be cousins. I haven't determined
exactly where my Ashers came from although Kentucky from Tennessee, from North
Carolina, from Pittsylvania counties Virginia seems a reasonable bet.
>From there I am thinking Culpeper and Spotsylvania Counties, but no proof of
it as yet.
Anyway regarding the information you asked for I took it from a library book
in the Sonoma County library in the Geneology section. I didn't write down
the name of the book since I was new to geneology and didn't realize that I
would need it later. But I think that it was something about ships passengers
to New England or some such title.
The information I copied was "John Asher, age 28, Gardener, sailed from
Edingboro on The Elizabeth [ships name] to Virginia indentured servant for
four years landed at the Port of London 11 to 18 Dec 1773."
I hope it helps. Let me hear from you any additional information I can
collect on the Asher family helps me get a little closer to learning the truth
and being able to prove it.
