Subject: [VACULPEP-L] Voss family of 18th Century Culpeper
Date: Wed, 02 Jun 1999 17:43:49 -0500

My Voss line, as I know it, covers about 100 years in
Virginia, beginning in the 1730's with the birth of
Edward Voss (Sr). He moved from King and Queen Co. to
Culpeper Co. in the late 1760's. He was later in Henrico
Co, beginning about 1785, where he was the brick contractor
who built the original state capitol building in Richmond,
1785-1790.

1) Edward Voss m. Elizabeth Brooke of Essex Co. They
settled in Culpeper Co.
2) Edward Voss (Jr) m. Jane (?). He d. 1808.
3) William Voss
3) Jane Elizabeth Voss m. Wm S Sterne of
Stafford Co. These are my
2g grandparents.
2) Robert Brooke Voss, d. 1811, m. Janet S. Knox
3) Susan F. Voss
3) Benjamin F. Voss
3) Robert S. Voss, m. Mary Thornton
3) William Edward Voss
2) Alexander Voss
2) Catharine Voss, m. John Greenhaw
2) Celia Voss, m. Eldridge Harris
2) Harriet Voss, m. Alexander McRae
2) Nicholas Voss, m. Mary Spotswood
3) E. N. Voss, b. 1795
3) J. S. Voss, b. 1797
3) Jane C. Voss, b. 1798, m. Henry Allison
3) Mary S. Voss, b. 1800, m. Wm Nisbet

Does anyone have anything on this line of Voss? If so,
I would very much like to hear from you. My "brick wall"
in this line: Who was Jane (?), wife of Edward Voss (Jr)?
This Edward lived in Culpeper, and operated a brick yard
in Fredericksburg, while his father and brother Nicholas
were in Richmond constructing the state capitol building.
