There is a small marker indicating that Bromfield Church once stood
at a spot on Bromfield Road #605. It is off the Culpeper/Sperryville
Road, turn left at Rt 707 near Boston. Rt 707 is Slate Road, pass
Grindstone Mtn Rd and the road turns into Slate Mills Road #607. A
short distance and on left is Bromfield Church Road Rt #605. A short
distance on Bromfield Church Road there is a field with a white 3'
pillar. The name Bromfield Church is on the side not facing the road.
My ancestor John Dillard and his son-in-law Robert Strother sold that
land with the brick Church on it in 1796. It's tucked into the
Gourdvine Neck between Madison and Rappahannock counties, quite close
to the Hughes River. How much area the Parish of Bromfield covered,
I don't know.
