June,

I don't know my way around Virginia very well...I've just started
getting into Farquier and Culpepper researching slaves in the family of
the TUTT, ASHBY, CHILTON and BLACKWELL. So I don't know where Henrico Co
is in relationship to Farquier and Culpepper. I am trying to understand
where people would have bought slaves in that area and which direction
they migrated. I don't know much about the timing of the county
formations so I might need help with that.

Anyway, here's what I figured out... Charles and John CHILTON were
brothers... and they both married sisters.

John married Letitia Blackwell and Charles married Elizabeth Blackwell.
Charles and Elizabeth had 10 children. One of their daughters was Lucy
Steptoe and I have no information on her other than what you sent
previously.. I noticed the Steptoe name. Charles' brother Stephen and
his wife Susan moved to Missouri -- their son Charles married Emma or
Mary Chilton; their youngest son Joseph married Bettie Wyatt.
My Agnes Gray was a slave of Mary and Charles...Charles could have
inherited Agnes upon his brother's death or bought her. Do you know
when John Chilton died? I have the tax list for land and property in
1759-1782 -- which lists numerous slaves on the property of Charles
Chilton and William Blackwell. All of this is mind-boggling in terms of
trying to track slaves.

Mark Anthony Chilton married Elouise Blackwell daughter of Gen John
Blackwell who was brother to Elizabeth and Letitia Blackwell -- John
Chilton being his brother-in-law. They too ended up in Missouri and are
buried with Charles and Mary Chilton and other Chilton relatives from
Farquier. Each one of the CHILTON relatives who came to MO also owned
slaves.

Another son of Charles Chilton and Elizabeth Blackwell was Dr. Samuel
Black Chilton who married Lucinda Blackwell (his first cousin). I have
some record of slaves he handled in trust in Kanawah County, VA.

I have the will of Elizabeth Blackwell which named 87 slaves who were
set free in 1859.
I recognize the surnames of many of the slaves as surnames in MO.
Charles Chilton and John P. Phillips were the executors of her will
dated Feb. 9, 1859.

Thanks very much for your help.
