(VACULPEP, VAROOTS-L and VA-ROOTS subscribers: I received this response off the list but it contains so much good
information that I thought I would pass it and my response on.)

Grandpa Dave, I could not agree with you more. Culpeper and Spotsylvania are my two main counties in Virginia. And,
since my mother was the first to leave the state in 1931, I have spent a lot of time there. My Pemberton family moved
there from Spotsylvania in the late 1700's and I have not been able to find my Humphreys before 1776 in any place but
Culpeper!

I have found the people in the courthouse to be helpful, but they do not have much to work with -- and minimal is
indexed. In addition to the sites you have mentioned, a researcher absolutely must have the Scheel map. Chasing
cemeteries and locations and neighbors from the map does produce results. Especially cemeteries.

Thanks so much for the offer regarding the Library of Virginia. BTW, my families are from the Richardsville area.
What families are you chasing and from where in Culpeper?
