Subject: Pinkard family in Culpeper County circa 1800
Date: Thu, 05 May 2005 10:11:34 -0400

In browsing through rootsweb archives, I found the following information.

......
marriage bond listed in VA Marriage Bonds to 1800 lists a Spencer
"Pinchard"
married Betsy Marshall. I don't believe it is any coincidence that there
is a
Marshall Pinkard on the 1820 Census for Culpeper Co.
......

After rereading my below note, I thought that a chart at the beginning
might help make the message more readable:

Thomas R. Hawkins m. Matilda Pinkard in 1823 in Culpeper County>Edward
Pinkard Hawkins (b. 1826)>Jesse Marshall Hawkins (b.1866) >Howard Burke
Hawkins>James Marshall Hawkins> Marsha Ann Hawkins (me)

My name is Marsha Hawkins Moses. Perhaps it is just a
coincidence....but I am named for my father, Marshall Hawkins....who was
named for his grandfather....Jesse Marshall Hawkins. Jesse Marshall
Hawkins was the son of Edward Pinkard Hawkins whose mother was Matilda
Pinkard married to Thomas R. Hawkins in Culpeper County in 1823. I have
known for years that Jesse Marshall Hawkins was named Jesse for his
grandfather on his mother's side....but I have often wondered where the
Marshall came from. Could it have been a family name on his father's
side---or his father's mother's side...?

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me in exploring this theory
more extensively. Any ideas? Any suggestions?

Thanks so much for any help that you can give me. marsha in WV
