The following is the will that might be of some help. I definitely proved the son James Brown (my ancestor) due to the naming of the backs given to each son. My James Brown in 1786 was already in Nelson Co. VA (now Nelson Co., KY) The tithables list of Nelson Co. each year gave the name of the blacks that my James Brown had. Note in the will Thomas Brown Sr. says"that he already has".

The will:
"wills Culpeper Co. VA will book C, p 220/221/222; 29 Oct 1786/ probate 15 Jan 1786 (should be 1787?)
wife Sarah:, plantations and leases of land where I now live. after her decease the "cattail" lot to
my son John Brown and the "Carters Turn lot" to my son Evan Brown
Wife Sarah: 6 negroes, namely Harry, Mol, Rachel, Peg, Queen & Sam
wife: all personal estate and after to be equally divided amonst my six children
Item to my son John Brown: 2 young negros ton and Luce
to my son Evan Brown: 2 young negros Geroge & Selah
To my son Thomas Brown: 2 young negroes Gerard and Ruben
To my son James Brown: 2 young negros Ruben that he has allready inpossession of & Harry
To my son Gideon Brown: 2 young negros James and Diner
to my daughter Sally Kenaday: 2 youn negros Jane & lege
To my grandson THomas Brown, son of John Brown, bible after his grandmother's deceased
exec: Sarah Brown, John Brown, and Evan Brown
wit: James Wheatly, Daniel Farmer, Richard Hudson."
