Message Board Post:

I am researching the lines from John Mitchell - Catherine Hanson (b. 1786, daughter of unknown Samuel Hanson from Maryland) in Frederick, Shenandoah and Warren Counties.

I have found reference to two chancery court cases in Frederick County Virginia that I am trying to get a hold of. I found them in the Library of Virginia index. If anyone has access to these I would appreciate a lookup.

The first is an 1822 case where Reuben E. Finnell sues (I believe his brother) Alexander Finnell (2nd husband of Catherine Hanson). The family names of Caldwell (John Mitchell & Catherine Hanson's daughter Ann "Nancy" Mitchell married Joseph Caldwell) , Finnell and Mitchell are included according to the index.

The second is an 1826 case where the above mentioned Joseph F. Caldwell & wife sues Charles W. Finnell. Charles, I think is either another brother of Alexander or a son, I can't recall without looking at my notes. Family names mentioned in the index are Caldwell, Finnell, Mitchell and Thorn. Thorn was the first wife of Reuben Finnell I believe.

There may also be case involving the estate of Reuben Finnell and his second wife, Sarah Ashford Mitchell Finnell, which may shed light on Sarah's children by her first husband William Mitchell. My John Mitchell is believed to be a child of that marriage.

Any help with any other information on these familes is appreciated.
