Ms. Splitstone,
A traditional source of information on McCarty is a series of Articles by Arthur Leslie Keith in William & Mary Quarterly, vol. 22, 23. A Daniel McCarty was prominent in Fairfax County in the mid to late 1700s (mentioned several times in Fairfax County, Virginia: A History. the history published by the County in 1992. He
was a member of a family that has several members in the records of Richmond County. On the Rootsweb website of the Richmond County Archives (you can find it through <www.cyndislist.com> , there are posted records from a McCarty Family bible.
My 5gr-grandfather, George Williams (?-1794) of Fairfax Co.had a daughter Elizabeth who married a Thomas McCarty, son of a James McCarty of Fauquier County. Insofar as we know, they are not related to the Daniel McCarty family. Elizabeth inherited land in Kentucky in her father's will, and she and Thomas moved to Kentucky
before 1800.

From his Rev. War Petition I believe he was born in Loudoun County about 1752 and enlisted in the military in 1776 at Leesburg.
