Subject: [VAFairfa] Question re: 1790 First Census Fairfax Co
Date: Sun, 13 Jan 2002 07:49:49 EST
Greetings:
I have in hand a transcribed page from the 1790 Census, State of Virginia
Fairfax County. It is in typewritten form with 4 columns - each column
listing (1) head of household name (2) total number of whites (3) total
number of blacks.
The heads of households are grouped under one particular name in general and
I am wonder the significance of that name. Would this person be the original
land granter? In the single page I have in hand the names are "List of
Charles Little"
List of Josiah Watson" Lists of John Gibson" "List of Martin Cockburn".
My ancestor is listed under "John Gibson" and by coincidence this name
appears on other documents for paying tax. What does this all mean, can
anyone elaborate on this? Look forward to further.
Thanks to all as I always get informed responses.
Anne
Ancestor of Lewis Samuel Pritchartt - Fairfax County VA
