ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - Fire caused $1 million in damage to an
historic church in Fairfax County Monday morning.

Flames erupted just after 4:30 a.m. in the Laurel
Grove Baptist
Church located in the 6,800 block of Beulah Street.

Pastor Rev. Edward Young called the blaze
"devastating." He
says now they'll look to restore or rebuild the
120-year-old
                  church.

County Fire and Rescue Department spokesman Lt. Raul
Castillo
says it took about 30 minutes to get the flames under
control.
Castillo says up to 30 mile per hour winds helped fuel
the
                  flames.

Early indications are the blaze started in the
church's basement.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries after they
slipped on ice.
                  Investigators are on the scene.

A tourism Web site says the church and the adjacent
schoolhouse have served the African-American community

                  since 1884.
