Subject: Death of Stephen Ferguson - Fairfax County 1855 - Connecting North andSouth
Date: Sun, 16 Jan 2005 21:45:11 -0500

Can anyone tell me the names of any Protesant Episcopal Churches in Fairfax
circa 1855? When Stephen lived in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York,
he was the Sexton of Christ Church [Protesant Episcopal]Poughkeepsie [from
1826-1842]. I'm looking for where Stephen may be buried in Fairfax and
thought perhaps it might be in a cemetery associated with a Protesant
Episcopal church in Fairfax County. I know there may have been several but
it will give me a Start.

Alexandria Gazette
November 26, 1855

"Died"

At his residence, in Fairfax County, on the 18th instant, after a protracted
illness, which he bore with Christian resignation. STEPHEN FERGUSON,
formerly of Dutchess County, New York, in the 64 year of his age. The
deceased was for many years, a consistent member of the Protestant Episcopal
Church, and his death is deeply regretted by his relatives and friends.

It is believe that Stephen's brother Uriah, sister-in-law Elizabeth, and
nephew James are buried in Flint Hill Cemetery, VIENNA. However from
information I found on-line it appears that the Flint Hill Cemetery
Association which was formed in 1875 to administer the cemetery only has
Burial records from 1875. If Stephen is buried here also there is probably
not an office record of his burial.

Seems the brothers Stephen and Uriah Ferguson (sons of Uriah Ferguson b.1761
d. 1835 of Dutchess County) may have gone to VA together sometime around
1842******I placed Jane in the Census above as the wife of William A. with
David 8, Mary E. 5 and Uriah 1 as William and Jane's children - this needs
more proof. I found William A. in the 1860 but it is difficult to
read.**********

Would also be interested in corresponding with anyone researching or related
to any of these individuals. Stephen is my children's 5th great grandfather.
Stephen's parents Uriah and Margaret Burtis Ferguson are buried a short
distance from where one of his 6th great granddaughter's lives today here in
Dutchess County, NY! I have collected much information on the Northern Side
of this Family, would love to exchange/share for any information on the
Southern Side.
