I was interested because of 1. I have ancestors that hail from there
And 2. If Loudoun county was part of Fairfax. And your reply is
fascinating. How vast it was. They have a wonderful library there!

Yes , The County of Fairfax, Virginia and the City of Fairfax, Virginia
was named after Honorable Sixth Lord Thomas Fairfax of Cameron [ a
Scotland County in Scotland, UK ], whose grandmother Lady Ann Culpepper
Fairfax bequeath to him ( her favorite Grandchild ) the Six Million
Acres of the Northern Neck of Virginia [ which territory included
existing Washington, DC Land ] and he came to America in the early 1700s
to maintain "Proprietor-ship over the FAIRFAX Lands of the Northern Neck
of Virginia". The Honorable US President George Washington, in his early
years of training as a Surveyor, was commissioned by Lord Fairfax to
survey the FAIRFAX Lands. They became Lifelong close friends.

Is this the Family that Fairfax Va was named for?
