Ann, I don't know of a reason for white washing the trees unless it was to
make the yard look better. Folks would white rocks around the flower beds and
those that used old tires for flower bed surrounds would white wash them I
guess it was to give everything a clean look. I haven't seen a white washed
tree for years. It was mostly used for barns, fences, etc.

Does anyone remember turning an old tire inside out for flower beds?
