Barb,
Your excellent work is most greatly appreciated by me. I have often
wondered if any of the records of the Confederate Veterans Camp # 111 existed.
The camp commander was C. M. Stigleman, I believe he was a doctor in Floyd and
was also a surgeon during the war. He is buried in the Jacksonville Cemetery.
I have posted several request on this list to see if any of Stigleman's
descendants were on the list or if anyone knew anything about the camp. I
received no replies Do you know of any other camp records that may exist?
I do suggest one correction to your transcription. You have "Clarke's
30th B VA Calvary" which is incorrect. The proper and correct name for Lyle
Clarke's unit is Clarke's 30th Battalion VA Sharpshooters. Clarke's unit was
a rifle - sniper company not a calvary unit. They didn't ride horses, wherever
they went, they walked often times without shoes even in the winter time! My
GGGrandfather, Cyrus Keith of Burkes Fork was a member of Clarke's Battalion
and of the veterans camp also.
Thanks again for your efforts and I can't wait to see the rest of the
transcriptions.
