IMPORTANT Trivia: one did not have to marry in the county seat; one merely
had to have a license from them. Also, I won't swear to the differences
between laws in MD and VA at that time. I do know that in the early to mid
1900s (at least past 1965) neither party had to actually reside in MD to
get a MD marriage license; my own parents lived in WV, but married in MD.
Washington and Frederick counties are connected as well by the Shenandoah.
And, depending on when what split off, it's only about 20 miles from the
east edge of Frederick to the west edge of Washington; less if Frederick
still had Clarke or Washington still had any of its daughters.
Also, be aware that there is also a Frederick county MD which abuts
Washington co and may have once been part of one-another.
