I wonder if you are looking at some of the Bahr/Barr family - they were German speaking Swiss and began arriving Philadelphia around 1741. Peter Turney SR married Anna Bahr d/o Melchior in Europe. I think she probably died in PA where her father stayed.

Peter Turney SR moved to near Edinburg VA around 1749 - and some of Anna Bahr's brothers also moved into Shenandoah Valley of VA.

What is so interesting.....the daughter of Anna Bahr was a Maria/Mary Turney....and I think she later became the wife of a John Valentine Beeler/Buhler - 1769 on Stoney Creek....Mary was born 1739.

But another daughter of Peter Turney SR according to PA church records was Eve born 1749....she married a John Teeter and they also had land on Stoney Creek in 1769 as did her brother Henry Turney.

early in 1774....Henry and Peter Turney Jr, and John Valentine Beeler are all living on Holston River in what becomes eastern Tn. Eve Turney Teeter is south of Abingdon and is buried there - today it is Scott County VA.

So you might want to look at the Melchior Bahr family, I think his father was a Melchior as was his son....so good luck there.

18th Century Emigrants has info on Melchior Bahr family....there were two sets of children by different wives.

As I said, the Bahr and Thuny families were first in Switzerland and spoke German, but they did move into Germany and then to America. One being born 1730 would be about right.

Mary Turney Miller
