The following book, on Heritage Quest, contains a bio of M. F. Triplett, son of Mortimer T.:
Hedge, Manoah, Past and Present of Mahaska County, Iowa
Chicago: S.J. Clarke Pub. Co., 1906
It says that M. F. was born in Noble Co., OH in 1852, and was brought to Iowa by his father Mortimer. T., Triplett, who was born in VA iin 1813 and was still alive in 1906. M. T. was the son of James, a teacher who left VA for Ohio in 1815.
No mention of any Catletts. M. T.'s wife's maiden name was Nancy Montgomery and M. F.'s wife was Ruth Doolittle, but the name of James' wife was not given.
1860 census index:
TRIPLETT MORTIMORE 47 M W VA IA MARION LAKE PRAIRIE TWP 1860
No Catletts on the same or next page, but interestingly, they were next door to an Earp family with a 12-yr old named Wyatt S. I wonder...
1870 census (father and son?):
TRIPLETT M 56 M W VA IA MAHASKA CEDAR TWP 1870
TRIPLETT M 25 M W OH IA MAHASKA CEDAR TWP 1870
M. F. Triplett shows up as Malcom F. in the 1860 and 1920 censuses. Again, no Catletts nearby.
