A note on a possible BOURN(E) link in Virginia and West Virginia:

A Morton BOURNE owned property (55 acres 1r. 2 poles on Back Creek) in Berkeley County, VA in 1824. Berkeley county was formed in 1772 from Frederick County (according to my information) and subsequently became part of West Virginia in 1863 during the Civil War.

It's possible that BOURN(E)s living on that property would have records in both states.

The source for this property record is:

The Library of Virginia
Land Office Grants
Northern Neck Grants, reels 288-311
Northern Neck Surveys, 1-6, A-E, reels 312-320
Location: Berkeley County
Description: 55 acres 1 r. 2 poles on Back Creek
Title: Bourne, Morton, grantee

Also on line is a photocopy of the original hand-written document.
