Roy O. Matney
HAMPTON - Roy Otto Matney, 57, affectionately known as Otto by friends and family, departed this life on March 4, 2008, after a long struggle with posttraumatic stress (PTSD).
He was born in Grundy, Va., a son of the late Andrew and Florence Matney. He was 57 at the time of his death, had served in the United States Air Force, was a retired civil service employee and a member of the Foreign Wars Post No. 1400. He was preceded in death by two sisters, June Garner and Clara Blakely and one brother, A. C. Matney.
Survivors include two daughters, Patty and Jennifer and one son, Roy; as well as two sisters, Evelyn Holliday and Annie Wilson Fagan; and three brothers, Jennings, Eddie and Jimmy Matney.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and healthcare providers of the Veterans Hospital in Hampton for the care, aid and support over the years.
A memorial service will be held at the Albert G. Horton Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery at Hampton Roads, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, Friday at 1 p.m. Howard Fagan will be officiating.
