family, but none of the houses are old enough to have belonged to Col. John
Starke - he d. Nov 1799 and my ancestor, his oldest son, Thomas migrated to
Wilkes County, Ga. after the Revolution. I need to go look for the property
- its on the N. Anna River across from John Wyatt's property in Caroline
and I have fairly decent directions - and have been told that the land is
undeveloped on the Caroline side... one never knows what one may find but
we are waiting for the snakes to hibernate! As dry as it has been they
staying close to whatever water they can find and most of the inland creeks
have dried up or are very, very low - the James is low and we live only
about a mile from that river - although it is not as bad as the 3-yr.
drought when you could walk across and not get your waist wet!
