State Library of Virginia and Virginia Historical Society both have
mountains of information. Check out the web sites to answer all your
questions.

www.vahistorical.org

Start with the LIbrary -- a full city block of STUFF! Be aware that in the
manuscripts section you cannot have with you anything but a pencil, laptop,
a notepad. You must rent a locker (for 25 cents) to hold purse, laptop
case, portfolio, manila folders, fanny pack, backpack, anything but the
clothes on your back. However that isn't necessary in the rest of the
building. You can take it all with you to the microfilms.

The Historical Society research library is located in the museum. There's a
small fee for its use. Well worth it. Maybe not as extensive a collection
as the Library. Lots of family Bible records. Use friendly. I love it.
