Thanks for the reply. Joseph Dawson testator of Wayne Co. NC 1783 had sons William, Isaac, Joel, Thomas and Jesse. William had a son Joseph who moved to Sampson Co. and is my direct line. Isaac also had a son Joseph who was in Duplin Co. NC in 1820s and I do not know where he went. Isaac was born in 1750s so his children were born in 1770s and 1780s (I don't know exact ages). Joel removed to Robeson Co. and his children went south. Thomas remained in Wayne/Lenoir Co. as did most of his children. Jesse was the last born son by a second wife and he was raised Quaker and removed to Belmont Co. Ohio, by 1820s. I believe a child born in 1829 would be a great-grandchild of Joseph and I have no record that any of his male lines moved to Orange Co. There was a Hightower Dawson in Chatham/Orange Co. early on. I have also talked to someone else searching for the parents of this Joseph. Hightower Dawson was the only Dawson on record in that area at the time. I have not res!
earched this any more. Sorry I can't help. There were several Joseph Dawsons in Cumberland/Moore Co. about the same time. Good luck. Dan
