Mr. Culbertson,

I descend from Mary "Polly" Woodall who married Zachariah Bays (both from
Virginia originally). Mary "Polly" Woodall was the daughter of John Woodall
and Dorothea (Dorothy) Pledge who came to Wilkes County, GA from Goochland
Co., VA. Dorothy was the daughter of William Pledge who was son of John
Pledge and Dorothy. I do not know how John Pledge descends from Nicholas
Pledge, but the first mention that I have found of John is in a deed in
Henrico County in 1679/80. In 1687, he deeds land to John Cannon whose wife
is "Easter" Cannon, evidently daughter of John Pledge. Do you know if John
descends from Nicholas Pledge? I don't think I have come across Nicholas,
but Pledge is not a common name that I have found except in
Henrico/Goochland, so I assume there is some family connection. The Woodalls
were in Henrico by the 17th century also. I would appreciate knowing
something about Nicholas, if you please.
