Hi Don,
I found a few records I have copies of from Henrico County of my various families that were there such as the Cottrells, Shepherds and more.
The following is from Henrico County Order Book No. 1, 1781-1784.
Court for December 3rd 1781
"An Inventory and Appraisement of the Estate of Samuel Sheppard[sic] decd was this day returned & ordered to be Recorded."
His name should be spelled Shepherd.
and on another page of the same order book
"Charles Cottrell Guardian to Samuel Sheppard[sic] an orphan of Samuuel Sheppard[sic] decd, and thereupon with Michael Johnson, Peter Clarke & Joseph Brown his Securities entered into and acknowledged their Bond in the penalty of two hundred thousand pounds of tobacco, for securing the said Orphan's Estate and indemnifying the Court."
and
"Reuben Sheppard[sic] & William Sheppard[sic] orphans of Samuel Sheppard decd being admitted by the Court chose Joseph Duvall for their Guardian, and thereupon he with Michael Johnson and Peter Clarke his Securities, entered into and acknowledged their Bond in the penalty of fifty thousand pounds of tobacco, for securing the said Orphan's Estate & indemifying the Court.~"
I know I must have more here. I have tons of copies from old records on microfilms of alot of counties where my families in Virginia lived.
God bless,
Beth
