I'm researching the BODKIN/BOTKIN surname in Augusta now Highland Co.
I'm trying to get some ideas on where my Bodkin ancestors were living before
moving to the Bullpasture River in 1743. I'm especially interested in
hearing from anyone with Bullpasture connections.
I have three favors:
1) If someone has Morton's History of Highland Co. I'd like to request a
look-up on a specific entry. If you don't want the list to ask for additional
look-ups if you could contact me directly I'd appreciate it.
2) Anyone with sources that might detail migration patterns to the Augusta
County area pre-1760 please post them to the group. i.e. from other states,
counties, countries, and ethnic backgrounds, Irish, German etc. I'd like to
read what you could provide.
3) I'd like to put together a list of all the families that can document
their ancestors movements to Augusta County pre-1760 to look for
patterns that might help those of us still trying to determine where our
ancestors came from. A pattern might develop based on the year and
location. If you have documentation or have more than just a hunch
please help. If you, like me don't have any idea please refrain from
submitting. I'd like the year, surname, point of origin as Country or
State/County (if you have documentation place a + in front and if you
have strong reason(s) to believe the origin then an *), major river
system/minor river that they settled on. If it's a small lesser known
system then provide the major system it feeds into for
easier reference. i.e. Cowpasture/xyz.
Place "Augusta Co. Surname" in the subject line.
Those of you that know where your ancestors came from will not have much to
gain from this exercise except to possibly help some of us who don't. So I
really appreciate anyone that will take the time to help. Rather than post
what I hope will be a large number of responses to the group if you will send
them directly to me I'll wait a week to give everyone time to respond and then organize
everything and post it to the group for the archives. If you could provide it in the
following columns it would help to organize it by year and then alpha by surname.
Year Surname/First name Origin (+ or *) River System Ethnic background
Perhaps there will be a pattern or two that will help. If not then it may
at least be interesting to see where families came from.
Thanks!
