Subject: [VAKINGWM] Beulah Church and King William county records
Date: Tue, 18 Nov 2003 20:27:35 -0500
Marie,
Smokey Road is the next road south of what is now called Dorrell Rd (used to be Herring Creek Rd). Dorrell Rd's east side intersects with W. River Rd just nw of Beulah Church. Smokey Rd (Smoking Rd on some old maps) dead ends on the east end at River Rd (rt 600) just south of Beulah Church. There is a farm called 'Oak Hill' on Smokey road and it's sign says "a Eubank Farm circa 1728". If you ever run across the Eubanks that are associated with this farm, let me know. I think this farm is the key to getting past my brickwall!
Beulah Church did still have records that go way back into the 1800's as recently as 2 years ago, but I don't know how much they have prior to 1830. A genealogy friend sent me all the Eubank entries he hand copied at the church about 2 years ago.
The great thing is that ALL of Beulah Church's records have been microfilmed and are available through the interlibrary load program at the Library of Virginia in Richmond. I have contacted them and they do have an extra 'loan' copy of the microfilm that can be requested through your local library even if you are out of state! I haven't ordered it yet. You can also get the microfilms of what's left of the King William County records.
I'll see what I see on Walkers in some of my 'stuff'.

Here's a link to the LVA website entry for these records. You can find the instructions for ordering the microfilm on the site and ask questions via email if needed.

This link is to a list of actual King William County records that are available for interlibrary loan. You'd be amazed at what you can find out just from the indexes of deeds:
