Seeking to find any information on the following:
Lizzie Crittenden - married Walter Samuel Brooks 8/23/1893. She was 22 at
time of marriage according to an LVA microfilm record. All I've ever found
about her shows her name as Lizzie though possibly could have been
Elizabeth. Her death certificate indicates she was born March 22, 1875
which would have made her only 17 at the time of her marriage. Her death
certificate lists her birth place as White Stone, VA, Lancaster County.
On the same reel of microfilm, Lizzie is listed as "Hill" so perhaps was
married to a Crittenden then Hill prior to marriage to Brooks.
Looking for information also on Sarah Alice Stevens Carter. I can trace
from the Carter line to the present but am stuck on her Stevens name.
According to her death certificate, her father's name was George Brooks and
mother's maiden name Alice Davis. Can't figure out how she obtained the
name Stevens - perhaps she was raised by someone else, adopted or even
married prior to her marriage to Robert Hunter Carter in 1905. Heard from
other family members that she and her family came from Lancaster County but
have been unable to prove this.
Her death certificate lists a Dr. Guy W. Hansley as her attending physician
at time of her death. Maybe someone will recognize this name. Billups
Funeral Home in Richmond handled arrangements and she's buried at Olivet
Baptist Church cemetery in King & Queen County.
Last, in King & Queen County, there is an old cemetery with Brown folks
buried there. Somehow they are related to me and there is a corner stone
that reads "Descendants of William Warren Brown, 1790-1937" Somewhere along
the way, there was a Sarah Brown (1859-1921) who married James W. Carter
(1858-1918). James Carter is my great-grandfather and I'd like to know more
about Sarah Brown and where she hails from.
Thanks to anyone who has time to provide any tidbit of information. I was
in the area in April and unfortunately had only one day so wasn't able to
visit churches, cemeteries, etc. Did make it to the Brown cemetery and
found a stone with the names William and Mary Brown. If you happen to have
info on this couple, I'd be interested in reading it.
Thanks again.
