Dear List,

I am having a very difficult time putting several, apparently related,
families together. Some of these families may not have actually been in
Lancaster Co., VA. But since others linked to these families were, just
maybe someone will have information that will help me!

Some of the following information was taken from various family tree's
submitted to World Family Tree (Vol. 1 - 11); and have not been proven by
me personally. So, please don't accept the following as absolute fact,
until confirmed. Corrections to any errors would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the families that I am attempting to piece together:

1. Reuben THORNTON (b. 12 Aug 1797 VA; d. 8 Feb 1863 Giles Co., TN) m. 10
Dec 1819 Pittsylvania Co., VA, Mary Tiffen. Reuben THORNTON is the son of
Zachariah THORNTON (b. 1763 VA; d. 1830 Pittsylvania Co., VA) and Mary
Elizabeth Oakes. Zachariah THORNTON is the son of Peter PRESLEY THORNTON
(b. 1736 Orange Co., VA; d. Bef. Jun 1815 Pittsyvania Co., VA) and Mary
Growley.

2. Francis THORNTON (b. 4 Jan 1682; d. 1758) m. Mary TALIAFERRO. Francis
THORNTON is the son of Francis THORNTON (b. 5 Nov 1651 Gloucester Co., VA;
d. 1716 King George Co., VA) and Alice Savage. Mary TALIAFERRO is the
daughter of John TALIAFERRO (b. 1656 Essex Co., VA; d. 1720 Essex Co., VA)
and Sarah Smith.

Another son of Francis THORNTON (b. 5 Nov 1651) and Alice Savage, Anthony
THORNTON (b. 1695 Gloucester Co., VA; d. 1757 Stafford Co., VA), m.
Winifred PRESSLEY, the daughter of Peter PRESLEY (b. 1657; d. 1750
Northumberland Co., VA) and Winifred Griffin.

(Incidentally, a daughter of Francis THORNTON (b. 5 Nov 1651) and Alice
Savage, Elizabeth THORNTON, m. Edwin Conway II, whose son (by his second
wife, Sarah Walker), Edwin Conway III, m. Ann BALL, the half-sister of Mary
BALL, mother of Gen. George Washington.)

Mary TALIAFERRO's brother, Richard TALIAFERRO, married Rose Berryman.
Their son, Zachariah TALIAFERRO, married Mary Boutwell. Their son,
Benjamin TALIAFERRO, married Martha MERIWETHER, the daughter of David
MERIWETHER and Mary Harvie. David MERIWETHER is the son of Thomas
MERIWETHER and Elizabeth THORNTON, the daughter of Francis THORNTON (b. 4
Jan 1682; d. 1758) and Mary TALIAFERRO.

3. Jane PRESLY (b. 26 Jun 1664) m. Richard Rogers. Jane PRESLY is the
daughter of Peter PRESLY (b. Abt. 1840; d. 19 Apr 1693 Northumberland Co.,
VA) and Elizabeth Thompson.

(Incidentally Richard Roger's brother, William Rogers, m. Elizabeth Dale,
the daughter of Major Edward Dale and Diana Skipwith -- of Lancaster Co.,
VA).

4. Peter PRESLEY THORNTON (b. 12 Nov 1765 Brunswick Co., VA; d. 6 Aug
1856) m. Elizabeth McCullock. Peter PRESLEY THORNTON is the son of William
THORNTON and Jane CLACK, the daughter of James CLACK and Mary STERLING.

William THORNTON is the son of Francis THORNTON (b. 7 Jun 1692 ) and Ann
STERLING, sister of Mary STERLING.

I know a lot of heads are spinning out there! Mine has been spinning for a
couple of days! Any help in linking the following would be greatly
appreciated:

Francis THORNTON (b. 4 Jan 1682) and Francis THORNTON (b. 7 Jun 1692);
Peter PRESLEY THORNTON (b. 1736) and Peter PRESLEY THORNTON (b. 1765);
Peter PRESLY (b. 1657) and Peter PRESLEY (b. Abt. 1640).
